Pod Progress

It’s been nearly two and a half months since I posted an update on my first African violet seed pods. At that time, I introduced the world to Op. Rhapsodie Michelle x Pastel Princess seed pods #1 and #2. Sadly, since then, pod #2 has failed. In mid-January I noticed it was no longer increasing in size, then its stem became limp and lifeless, and finally I called it a failure and removed it from the parent plant. Pod #1, however, is thriving – to the point where I hope it doesn’t burst! It’s hard to tell when this baby will be ready to harvest, as it’s three months old already. I’m ready for some baby princes and princesses!

Seed pod #18-01, Rhapsodie Michelle x Pastel Princess, 3 months.

In the spirit of good news, we now have three more successful crosses:

Pastel Princess x Op. Texas II (x2):

Pastel Princess x Op. Rhapsodie Lucia:

Pastel Princess x Jersey Girl Trail:

Pastel Princess x Jersey Girl Trail, 1 month. I’m not 100% sure that this cross was successful, but I’m hoping that there is a seed pod developing here.

I will need to make space for all of these babies!!

  1. Are you in the African Violet and Saintpaulia Hybridizers facebook group? I’ve been posting my hybridization results there, and it’s a great group with some more experienced hybridizers to chat with.
